Nestled in the picturesque area of Sonoita, Arizona, Our Lady of the Angels Church, a mission of St. Therese of Lisieux Parish in Patagonia, stands as a testament to the dedication and faith of a small group of devout Catholics in the Mountain Empire. Starting back in the 1980’s this charming church was only a dream of parishioners that held mass in the local fire hall, and/or borrowed space from other churches on Saturdays. The construction of the initial church building was made possible by the generous donation of 4.2 acres of property from US Representative Rick Renzi and his family. However, it was the collective efforts of stoic priests and passionate individuals who truly brought the project to fruition. Through innovative fundraising initiatives such as making and selling dog biscuits, collecting aluminum cans for recycling, organizing fundraisers, and operating a thrift store, these dedicated individuals rallied the community behind them. Together, they raised the necessary funds not only for the construction of the church building but also for the establishment of a thrift store called "Angel Wings." As a result, Our Lady of the Angels Mission Church is now a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and unwavering faith in the heart of Sonoita.
"For we are God’s servants, working together; you are God’s field, God’s building.”
